Kathmandu: Microsoft co-founder and tech visionary Bill Gates has issued a serious warning about the future of work in the age of AI. Speaking on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Gates shared his belief that artificial intelligence will replace most jobs within the next decade — except for a select few.
According to Gates, as AI technology advances rapidly and investments pour into automation, only three types of professions will remain truly resilient in the long run:
- 👨💻 Coders – Because they create and refine AI systems themselves, requiring deep human expertise and logic.
- ⚡ Energy Experts – Since managing and planning complex energy systems still demands human decision-making and adaptability.
- 🔬 Biologists – As scientific research and innovation in life sciences still rely heavily on creative thinking, curiosity, and emotional intelligence.
Gates emphasized that while AI can automate repetitive tasks and even some creative ones, it struggles to match human judgment, empathy, and complex reasoning — traits critical in these professions.
His comments echo growing global concerns about the impact of automation on employment, urging students and professionals alike to focus on careers that require critical thinking and a human touch.
